Malecón 2000, Guayaquil: The HEART and SOUL of the city

Before I even stepped foot in Guayaquil, I read a lot on what the city was known for and what I could look forward to. At that time, I needed all the boost I could, to make me look forward to the upcoming change my life. New place, new people, new LIFE.

The first image I saw on the net when I typed Guayaquil, was of this beautiful, cemented, clean boardwalk overlooking a body of water(later found out that it was the Guayas river) on one side and lush greenery, parks for children and ponds on the other side. This for you ladies and gentlemen is- Malecón 2000.

Hands down, the most beautiful possession of Guayaquil, the pride of the people of Guayaquil and the jewel in the crown amongst the many monuments and architecture in the city.

Any time of the day, especially during holidays you will find heaps of people walking aimlessly, and will make you wonder- Don't they ever work??? ;)
Couples, Youngsters, families, young children, artists, senior citizens, joggers; you will find them all.

This is a great place to get some fresh air and some exercise if you are in the mood for doing something healthy and productive. All of 2.5 km in length ,a walk from one end to the other will make you feel healthy, wealthy and wise. Obviously, I am assuming you will not stop at the many tempting food stalls, ice cream stands and fast food joints on the way.

Malecón 2000 caters for the needs of everyone. Right from a planetarium, to swings and zorbing balls in parks for the children; to the underground shopping mall for the shopoholics, to the first IMAX theater in South America for the movie buffs- there is LITERALLY everything one can think of.

In fact, right at one end of Malecón 2000, you will find the Mercado Artesanal, which is a very famous market where you will find everything in this planet. Clothes, Shoes, Musical instruments, Electronic items, Ceramic goods, Wooden items etc.

The place is full of life, happy, cheery and smiling people all around; thus making you feel that LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. On weekends, if you are lucky, you will get to enjoy the melodious music of some band performing live for the people or some artist showcasing his or her skill.

In short, you will NEVER go back home feeling bored after a visit to officially my favorite place in Guayaquil: Malecón 2000.
